Google has announced that its AI features in Workspace apps, such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, and others, will now be available to all users at no extra cost.
Previously, access to these AI tools required a $20 per user per month Gemini Business plan. However, as Google expands access to these features, it has also increased the subscription cost for Workspace plans by approximately $2 per user per month.
This means that the base subscription price has risen from $12 to $14 per user monthly, though exact costs vary depending on existing contracts.
These AI features include tools like email summaries in Gmail, automated spreadsheet designs, video generation, note-taking for meetings, and writing assistance across apps.
Users also gain access to the powerful Gemini bot, which not only acts as a standard chatbot but also helps locate information and perform advanced searches within a user’s Workspace.
Jerry Dischler, Google’s president of cloud applications, emphasized that the company’s vertically integrated AI system aims to make these tools more accessible and valuable for businesses, addressing the cost concerns many companies previously faced when adopting AI solutions.
Google’s decision mirrors similar moves by competitors. Microsoft recently integrated its Copilot Pro AI tools into standard Microsoft 365 subscriptions for Personal and Family plans in select regions, eliminating its $20 monthly fee.
Both companies recognize the importance of making AI features widely available to introduce users to advanced functionalities and build long-term customer loyalty.
Google’s shift comes at a time when competition in AI-powered productivity tools is intensifying, with companies racing to redefine the workplace experience.
Dischler noted that this broader availability of AI will encourage businesses to embrace these tools fully, proving their value and accelerating the rollout of new features.
