OpenAI has started rolling out its latest AI model, GPT-4.5, to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Previously, the model was only available to Pro users paying $200 per month. The company announced that the rollout would take between one and three days, and rate limits may change as demand increases. GPT-4.5 is OpenAI’s largest and most powerful model so far, built with more computing power and data. However, it still lags behind other AI models in reasoning, including some from competitors like DeepSeek and Anthropic.
One of the major challenges with GPT-4.5 is its high operational cost. OpenAI is charging $75 per million tokens for input and $150 per million tokens for output, making it significantly more expensive than the GPT-4o model.
Due to this, OpenAI is still deciding whether to continue offering GPT-4.5 through its API in the future. The company, however, claims that the model provides deeper knowledge, better emotional intelligence, and reduced hallucination rates, which could make it more reliable than previous versions.
Another notable aspect of GPT-4.5 is its persuasive capabilities. OpenAI’s internal testing found that the model performs well in argumentation and was even able to convince another AI to hand over money and reveal a secret code.
While the rollout is still in progress, OpenAI is monitoring user feedback and demand to determine future adjustments. This expansion highlights OpenAI’s efforts to improve AI performance while managing the costs and challenges of large-scale AI deployment.
