Anthropic has announced a major update to its AI chatbot Claude, which now connects with Google Workspace to access Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. This integration is currently in beta and available to users subscribed to the Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro plans. For organizations, administrators must first enable the feature before individual users can link their accounts.
With this update, Claude can reference personal emails, scheduled events, and documents to deliver more relevant and context-aware responses. Anthropic emphasizes that this removes the need for users to repeatedly upload files or provide detailed prompts. While Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT also offer integrations with Workspace or Drive, Claude stands out as one of the first third-party AI assistants to establish a deeper connection with Google’s productivity tools.
According to Anthropic, Claude can assist with organizing both work and personal life. For instance, it could help parents by summarizing school emails, calendar events, and even searching online for local activities and weather updates. When referencing content from Gmail or Docs, Claude provides in-line citations to show exactly where the information came from.
Despite these conveniences, some users may be concerned about privacy. Claude cannot send emails or add events, but the full extent of its access is not entirely clear. Users may wonder whether they need to specify which items Claude can view or if certain content can be excluded.
Addressing this, Anthropic stated that data is not used to train Claude by default, and strong authentication measures are in place. Connections to services like Gmail or Docs are restricted to individual users or organizations and cannot be shared across accounts.
