DeepSeek AI is facing increasing bans from governments and organizations worldwide due to concerns over security, privacy, and potential data sharing with Chinese authorities.
Italy
Italy was among the first countries to take action, with its Data Protection Authority launching an investigation into DeepSeek’s compliance with GDPR.
The regulator questioned the company’s data collection and storage practices, ultimately leading to the removal of its apps from Apple and Google stores in Italy.
Taiwan
Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs also raised alarms, citing risks of national security threats and data transmission issues. The government has banned DeepSeek across all public sector agencies, state-owned enterprises, and schools.
US. Navy
Similarly, the U.S. Congress has issued warnings about DeepSeek’s potential risks, with the House’s chief administrative officer advising staff not to use the company’s technology due to concerns over malware and cybersecurity threats.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statewide ban on DeepSeek software from all government-issued devices, stating that the state would not allow foreign entities to exploit AI for data harvesting. The U.S. Navy also instructed its personnel to avoid using DeepSeek for work or personal use, citing security and ethical concerns.
Penatagon
A similar move came from the Pentagon, which blocked access to DeepSeek’s technologies after reports surfaced that some employees had used them without proper authorization. The Defense Information Systems Agency reinforced this restriction, limiting access to DeepSeek’s AI through specific approved platforms.
NASA also joined the list of agencies restricting DeepSeek’s use. A memo from NASA’s chief AI officer explicitly prohibited employees from using DeepSeek software on agency devices or networks due to concerns over national security.
As bans continue to spread across more regions and agencies, DeepSeek’s presence in global AI markets is becoming increasingly restricted, raising questions about the company’s future outside China.
