Google is reportedly working on new features for its Gemini app that could allow users to create AI-generated videos. According to a recent discovery by tipster AssembleDebug for Android Authority, the latest version of the Google app contains hidden references to these video generation capabilities.
The internal codename for this function is “Robin,” and the code includes phrases related to the video creation process, suggesting that Google is testing these features for a future release. Currently, no AI video generation tools are available to Gemini users, but the presence of these code snippets indicates that exciting developments may be on the horizon.
One of the most intriguing possibilities is that Google might provide Gemini users access to Veo 2, a state-of-the-art AI model from Google DeepMind. Veo 2, which is currently in early access as VideoFX from Google Labs, can generate highly realistic video clips based on text descriptions or still images.
While Gemini can already produce high-quality still images using Google’s Imagen 3 model, adding video capabilities would mark a significant advancement. Creating high-quality AI videos typically requires substantial computing power and is often limited to paid services, although open-source options are improving.
Another potential avenue for Google is to introduce a simplified version of Veo 2 or a different AI video generation tool, such as Google Vids. This application, part of Google Workspace, helps users create business-related videos, including presentations and promotional content, by providing templates and AI-assisted features. However, Google Vids may not be ideal for the general audience that Gemini targets.
Google has not yet disclosed any details about the pricing or availability of these potential video-generation tools. If they do launch, the most advanced features will likely be reserved for users with paid subscriptions, ensuring access to Google’s powerful AI technologies.
