Meta Plans to Release a Dedicated AI Chatbot App This Year

Meta is working on a dedicated AI chatbot app, expected to launch in the second quarter of this year, as reported by CNBC. The Verge has also confirmed the development of this standalone app, which will compete with other AI-powered apps like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.

While Meta has already integrated its AI chatbot into Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, this new app aims to reach a broader audience, including those who may not use Meta’s existing platforms.

Similar to its competitors, Meta AI can generate text, create images, edit photos, and answer questions. Additionally, it now includes a memory feature to provide more personalized responses.

The news follows Meta’s increasing investment in AI, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announcing plans to allocate up to $65 billion to strengthen the company’s AI capabilities. As competition in the AI space intensifies, Meta is focusing on expanding its AI offerings and making them more accessible.

In response to CNBC’s report, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman jokingly commented, “ok, fine, maybe we’ll do a social app,” hinting at the growing rivalry in AI technology.

Meta has not provided an official statement on the upcoming app but has scheduled an AI-focused event on April 29th, where it may reveal further details. The move signals Meta’s commitment to AI innovation, ensuring its chatbot remains competitive in a rapidly evolving market. By launching a dedicated app, Meta aims to strengthen its position among AI industry leaders while reaching users beyond its social media ecosystem.
