Nvidia has reportedly acquired Gretel, a San Diego-based startup specializing in synthetic AI training data. While the exact terms remain undisclosed, sources suggest the deal exceeded Gretel’s last valuation of $320 million, making it a nine-figure acquisition, according to Wired. The company and its team of around 80 employees will be integrated into Nvidia, where its technology will be used to enhance Nvidia’s suite of generative AI tools for developers.
Founded in 2019 by Alex Watson, Laszlo Bock, John Myers, and Ali Golshan—who also serves as CEO—Gretel focuses on refining AI models, incorporating proprietary technology, and packaging them into commercial products. The company raised over $67 million in venture capital from investors such as Anthos Capital, Greylock, and Moonshots Capital before its acquisition.
