OpenAI to Beta Test ChatGPT Connectors for Google Drive & Slack

OpenAI to Beta Test ChatGPT Connectors for Google Drive & Slack

OpenAI is preparing to launch ChatGPT Connectors, a feature that allows business users to link applications like Google Drive and Slack to ChatGPT for enhanced AI-powered insights. According to a document reviewed by TechCrunch, the beta test will initially be available to ChatGPT Team subscribers, enabling them to ask ChatGPT questions informed by files, presentations, spreadsheets, and conversations stored in these apps. OpenAI also plans to expand support to additional platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint and Box.

The document describes ChatGPT Connectors as a tool designed to integrate internal company data with AI-driven search, making it easier for employees to access relevant information. While some organizations remain cautious about sharing sensitive business data with AI, others see potential advantages in leveraging AI for productivity. If successful, ChatGPT Connectors could challenge existing AI-powered enterprise search solutions like Glean.

Powered by a specialized version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, ChatGPT Connectors can refine responses using internal company knowledge. All users in a participating ChatGPT Team workspace will have access to the AI, which indexes and searches encrypted copies of company files and conversations to provide relevant responses. Users will be able to view additional sources linked to responses, and OpenAI assures that existing permissions within Slack and Google Drive will be maintained, ensuring employees can only access content they have permission to view.

However, the feature comes with limitations. It cannot process images within documents, nor can it analyze spreadsheets beyond simple reading. Additionally, ChatGPT Connectors cannot retrieve private Slack messages or group chats, and it excludes content from Slack bots. Companies interested in joining the beta must provide OpenAI with 100 documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or Slack channel conversations, though OpenAI claims it will not use this data for direct model training.

While OpenAI has not responded to requests for comment.
