Amazon’s Prime Video has started testing AI-powered dubbing for a selection of licensed movies and TV series. The streaming platform revealed on Wednesday that this new feature will initially be available in English and Latin American Spanish. To maintain quality, AI-generated dubbing will be refined by human localization professionals.
This pilot project includes 12 titles that previously had no dubbed versions. Some of the featured titles are the Spanish animated film El Cid: La Leyenda, the heartwarming drama Mi Mamá Lora, and the independent movie Long Lost. By integrating AI with human oversight, Prime Video aims to provide high-quality localization while making more content accessible to global audiences.
AI-based dubbing has gained traction across the entertainment industry, with major platforms adopting it to streamline language localization. Deepdub, an AI dubbing company, already collaborates with streaming services like Paramount+. YouTube has also embraced this technology, recently launching an automated dubbing tool that enables creators to translate their videos into multiple languages.
Beyond AI dubbing, Prime Video has introduced various AI-driven features to enhance user experience. Features like “X-Ray Recaps” offer quick episode and season summaries, while “Dialogue Boost” improves speech clarity for hard-to-hear dialogue. This latest test suggests Prime Video is continuing to explore AI solutions to improve content accessibility and viewer satisfaction.
With AI-driven localization becoming more advanced, Prime Video’s test could mark a significant shift in how content is adapted for global audiences. If successful, the AI dubbing feature may expand to more titles, offering viewers more language options and making content more inclusive without relying solely on traditional dubbing methods.
