South Korea is gearing up to host the world’s largest AI data center, a massive project that aims to strengthen the country’s position as a global technology leader. The initiative is led by Fir Hills, a division of California-based Stock Farm Road, Inc. (SFR), and is set to begin construction in late 2025. The facility, located in Jeollanam-do Province, is expected to generate $3.5 billion in annual revenue and will play a vital role in advancing AI-driven technologies. The project is valued at over $10 billion initially, with the potential to expand to $35 billion.
Co-founded by LG heir Brian Koo and Dr. Amin Badr-El-Din, SFR has partnered with the Jeollanam-do government to develop this cutting-edge infrastructure. The AI data center will feature state-of-the-art cooling systems, high-speed fiber connectivity, and the ability to handle sudden energy load changes, making it a crucial hub for next-generation AI applications. Upon completion in 2028, it will boast a 3-gigawatt capacity, surpassing any other AI data center in the world.
This development marks a significant step for South Korea’s AI industry, with projections showing the global data center services market reaching $438.3 billion by 2030. The project is expected to create over 10,000 jobs across multiple sectors, including renewable energy, research and development, and equipment manufacturing. By supporting hyperscalers, large corporations, and AI developers, the facility will become a key player in AI-driven innovation.
SFR’s expertise in Energy-to-Intelligence (e2i²) is driving this initiative, positioning South Korea as a leader in AI infrastructure. The company also plans to expand similar AI projects across Asia, Europe, and the U.S. over the next 18 months.
