xAI has unveiled its Grok chatbot app for iOS users in the United States. This standalone app, currently in beta, mirrors the functionality of the chatbot integrated into X, formerly Twitter.
Users can access real-time information, ask questions, and generate images through the app, expanding the chatbot’s accessibility.
While testing of the standalone app began in December across select countries, the release for Android devices has not been confirmed yet.
Initially, Grok was exclusive to X Premium subscribers, but the service became free for all X users last month.
This move aligns Grok with other popular chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Anthropic’s Claude, which also offer free-to-use options. The decision to make Grok widely available reflects xAI’s ambition to compete in the growing AI chatbot market.
In addition to the app, xAI appears to be developing a dedicated website, Grok.com, which currently displays a “coming soon” message.
This development hints at broader plans to enhance Grok’s accessibility and features. The rollout comes on the heels of xAI’s significant fundraising achievements.
After securing $6 billion in June, the company raised another $6 billion from strategic investors, including tech giants Nvidia and AMD.
This funding highlights the growing importance of AI technologies and xAI’s intent to remain a key player in this space.
By expanding Grok’s reach and making it available to a wider audience, xAI is positioning itself to compete directly with other AI platforms, offering a seamless and interactive chatbot experience.
