YouTube is rolling out a new feature that will help creators generate custom instrumental backing music for their videos using AI. Announced through the company’s Creator Insider channel, this tool is being gradually made available to users who have access to Creator Music, a platform launched in 2023. The feature is part of an ongoing effort to make music more accessible and easier for creators to add to their videos, offering a free and simple solution that eliminates concerns about copyright claims.
This AI-powered music generation tool allows creators to generate original tracks by entering a prompt into a “Music Assistant” tab found within the Creator Music section. In this free text field, creators can specify the type of music they want, including details such as instruments, mood, and video genre. The platform even provides some example prompts to help guide users through the process. Once the music is created, creators can download the tracks and incorporate them into their videos without worrying about licensing or copyright issues, as YouTube ensures these tracks are free to use.
The update is being introduced to creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program in the U.S., and it further expands the Creator Music marketplace, which previously allowed creators to browse a library of music and view licensing costs. This new AI tool adds a cost-free, custom music option to the mix, allowing creators to enhance their content with unique, personalized soundtracks.
Earlier, YouTube tested a similar feature known as “Dream Track,” which was powered by DeepMind’s Lyria and allowed users to generate short music tracks mimicking famous artists. However, the new AI music feature goes beyond that by offering more flexibility, allowing for a broader range of customization. Currently, this AI tool is focused on instrumental music, giving creators a simple and accessible way to elevate their content without additional costs.
